Training workshop for girls and women freed from forced labor in Kathmandu

Girls and young women around the world are affected by exploitation and are often victims of human trafficking. For example, approximately 10,000 to 15,000 girls from Nepal are lured by unscrupulous offers and forced into forced labor every year.

For girls and women trapped in the system of forced exploitation, escape without outside help is nearly impossible. To enable these girls and young women to overcome their traumas and return to self-determined lives, our project partner, the Vicente Ferrer Foundation in collaboration with Maiti Nepal, operates shelters and training workshops in Nepal. In these facilities, the rescued girls and women not only find a safe home, but also new perspectives for their future. They will have the chance to participate in society and the opportunity to take their life back into their own hands. The goal is also to reintegrate them into society and, if possible, their families.

In addition to technical training, the women also participate in awareness-raising workshops. Their goal is to protect them from the enticing offers of supposed employment brokers and to raise their awareness of potential dangers. Additionally, they receive training that enables them to build a small business, such as selling pickles. The training plan includes basic introductions to accounting and managing a small business.
