Efficient cooking stoves for Nigeria and Rwanda

In Nigeria and Rwanda, millions of households still cook over open fires or simple charcoal stoves. This has serious consequences: high wood consumption, smoke that is harmful to health, and a large time burden, especially for women and children. Additionally, this process releases significant amounts of CO2.

Our collaboration with atmosfair on this project starts right here. The highly efficient SAVE80 cooking stove with Wonderbox enables clean, fast, and economical cooking. Wood consumption decreases by up to 90 %. At the same time, the daily cooking time is significantly reduced, and the smoke pollution in households is greatly reduced.

The Beurer Foundation supports 650 of these efficient cooking stoves in Nigeria and Rwanda each year, resulting in an annual CO2 reduction of around 2,000 t.

More impact on many levels

Climate Protection & Environment: Less wood consumption protects local forests and reduces CO2 emissions and soot particles.
Health: Clean combustion reduces smoke pollution – studies show improved lung function.
Social relief: Households save money and time, especially women and children benefit from better educational and development opportunities.
Economic development: Local production, including in the new kiln factory in Kigali, Rwanda, creates jobs, promotes training, and strengthens the regional economy.

The project goal is a long-term self-sustaining structure that combines climate protection, forest protection, and poverty reduction.

The project will thus sustainably improve the living conditions of millions of people in Nigeria and Rwanda.
